Artist
Bio:
Those who pause to visit with Jack Walker
will come away highly entertained and with
a better understanding of the term "cowboy".
The
Sedona, Arizona based artist, known for his
accurate and detailed western bronzes, was
born in southwestern New Mexico and raised
in a ranching community. His association with
cowboys and horsemen influenced his beliefs,
values, and eventually, his art. Those relationships
also resulted in an abiding affection for
the horse and the work for which they were
required.
Then
in 1998 a friend visiting the ranch where
Jack was employed, left him a 10 lb. block
of clay and redefined Jack's life. He quickly
discovered a talent and passion for carving
and shaping life-like figures of cowboys,
horses and cattle. His wife, Fran, recognizing
his potential, convinced Jack to give up the
physically demanding life of a cowboy to pursue
an art career in Scottsdale, Arizona. Shortly
after arriving in Scottsdale, Jack began working
with a gallery on Main Street and several
other venues and rapidly established himself
as a respected western artist.
The
many years of working cattle and horses bring
depth, dimension and authenticity to the scenes
and figures that Jack creates. With no formal
training, Jack shows no hesitation in sculpting
his favorite subject... the cow horse and
all the gear associated with its employment.
His work captures almost every possible scenario
involving cowboys, cowgirls and their horses.
Jack
has juried into many fine art shows and has
successfully shown his work in Scottsdale
and Sedona, Arizona building an impressive
national and international client base. While
sculpting in a Scottsdale gallery in 2001,
one of the many commissions he received was
from actor Hugh O'Brian depicting the star
as he appeared in his role as Wyatt Earp in
the 1960's television series.
